A national prize for two-dimensional art

Application form

Entries are now open to Australian residents for a national, acquisitive, biennial contemporary art prize.
Please ensure that you have read the conditions of entry, available on the GCS gallery website.
Artists are invited to submit original, two-dimensional artworks that reflect the theme of Making Connections.
The cost of entry is $50 per entry, or $90 for two entries.
The winning entry will form part of the permanent collection of Abbotsleigh’s Grace Cossington Smith Gallery.

The three prizes and exhibition:

  • The Grace Cossington Smith art award: $15,000 acquisitive
  • The Grace Cossington Smith Early Career Artist award: $2,500 non acquisitive
  • The Grace Cossington Smith Local Artist award: $2,500 non acquisitive
  • As part of the award, the winners will share a supported, three-week group exhibition at the GCS Gallery in 2019

Submission of artwork (via website,(preferred) email, USB or CD)

Digital images to be supplied as

  • jpg files
  • 300 dpi
  • less than 5 MB

Images should be saved with the following file name format: artist surname_artistfirstname_artworkname.jpg
Please indicate if the image is a detail of the work: artist surname_artistfirstname_artworkname_detail.jpg

Declaration

(a) The artwork/s submitted by me for the 2018 Grace Cossington Smith art award is/are my own original work and has/have been produced between August 2016 and August 2018
(b) I hereby certify that I have been a resident of Australia since August 2016 and I am over 18 years of age.
(c) I have read the conditions relating to the 2018 Grace Cossington Smith art award and agree to be bound by them.
(d) If I have nominated for consideration for Local Artist award and/or Early Career Artist award I acknowledge the definitions in the conditions for entry
(e) If my work is shortlisted for the 2018 Grace Cossington Smith art award, I authorise reproduction of the work and use of my artist’s statement in part or whole, and will provide a CV for use on the gallery website and for publicity, promotion and educational purposes.
(f) If I am the successful winner of the 2018 Grace Cossington Smith art award, I understand that my work will be acquired by the Grace Cossington Smith Gallery.
(g) If I am the successful winner of the 2018 Grace Cossington Smith art award or the Local Artist award or the Early Career Artist award, I agree to participate in a joint exhibition in GCS Gallery in November 2019 (final dates to be confirmed)
